Our Ladies team triumphed twice more this weekend, extending their 2026 winning streak to four games - the only four that they have played in this season. This weekend's games were against Mark CC and Lympsham and Belvedere CC, with our ladies team coming out on top of both results.
Batting and running between the wickets were once again strong areas of our ladies games, scoring a mammoth 94 runs (excluding extras) from 45 deliveries, losing 4 wickets in the process in their first game. With extras added, and adjustments made for wickets taken in their bowling innings, our ladies finished with an imposing score of 119. Despite missing two players due to last minute injuries, Mark’s ladies team made a valiant effort to chase this down, reaching an adjusted total of 82 runs - a respectable total in this shortened format.
The heavy scoring continued into our second game, with 77 runs accumulated from the bat - making for an adjusted score of 115 runs. This is worked out by the following: 77 runs from the bat, 8 extras, plus a bonus 30 runs for taking 6 wickets whilst bowling. Some very tight bowling in Lympsham’s batting innings limited them to 38 runs off the bat - with Anna, Libby and Rachel conceding just 3 runs during the middle third of this innings. After adjustments, Lympsham managed to score a total of 65 runs.
Despite the difference in scores across both games, they were played in terrific spirit - with everybody getting involved with bat and ball, and having an enjoyable time whilst doing so. These two victories put Wells and Horrington Ladies team in 1st place of the Weston Women's Indoor League, 7 points clear of Lympsham in 2nd place.
In the regular captain’s absence, vice-captain Libby stepped up to the occasion, batting very well in the closing overs of both games, scoring 18 from 8 deliveries against Mark and 21 from 10 deliveries against Lympsham. Both of these innings were in partnership with Abby, who also approached her batting with gusto, likewise scoring 21 from 7 deliveries against Mark and then 18 from 5 deliveries against Lympsham.
Shoutouts are also in order for Jodie and Rachel, both of whom scored well and bowled economically, putting in major contributions to both of our victories this weekend.
